Bennie A. Hudson

Agency: Kansas City Police Department, MO

Officer Hudson, 22, had been with the Kansas City Police Department for four months and had served for three years in the United States Air Force.

On the evening of November 24th, 1960, Officer Hudson was dispatched on a robbery call and upon his arrival, he encountered three men armed with guns in the parking lot of the Antioch Shopping Center. He and the other officer that responded to the scene were caught in a gun battle with the suspects, and Officer Hudson was mortally wounded, shot through the heart. Two of the suspects fled the scene and the third suspect confessed to officers that caught him a short time later.

All three suspects, LeRoy Lee Larson, Jack Lynn Hodge and Billy Miles, were convicted of Patrolman Hudson's murder and sentenced to life on February 11, 1961.

He was survived by his wife, Joyce Hudson and was the son of Frank and Edna Hudson.

Reflections:

I was only 13ys old when you died in the line of duty. I couldn’t believe that anyone would really kill a policeman, let alone a couple of blocks from my house. After retiring from law enforcement myself, I can only imagine the broken hearts that were left behind. R.I.P. For it was your death that made me want to become a police (so I could get bad guys like the ones that took your life). My watch has been over for a few years now as I retired. Though I never met you, I never forgot you "last call''

Benthey helped my mother acquire social security for me. Bennie A. Hudson, was my father. I am 51 years old and was born in the Philippines. While my father was stationed at Clark Air Base, he got married to my mother. My grandparents Hudson found out about me after his death.
