George E. LAwson

Detective George E. Lawson served in the Kansas City Police Department for two years.
On March 7, 1924 Detective Lawson and Officer E. T. Roberts were attempting to arrest two men who had just robbed the Faultless Laundry at 1401 Woodland Avenue when the men ran. Lawson reached the men a few seconds before Roberts and called for them to halt. The men turned and fired on Detective Lawson fatally wounding him.
On March 8th, Detectives Charles Bland and Louis Myers entered a rooming house in an attempt to arrest D. C. Morris for the murder of Detective Lawson as Detective Fisher guarded a rear door. D. C. Morris opened fire on the detectives wounding each of them in the arms. Detective Fisher fired five shots instantly killing Morris.
Detective Lawson was survived by his wife, Marie.

To My Uncle George: Even though my father, John D Dozier, your nephew, son of your sister Erma H Lawson Dozier, never knew you, he talked about you. When cleaning out our late mother’s house my sister and I found a newspaper article about you and your end of watch so many years ago this week. We thank you for service as a first responder that caused you to give your full measure in the protection of the community and we can only imagine the sorrow felt by the family at your loss. On a recent trip to locate family grave sites in Kansas City, we found yours, your parents, and your other sisters' final resting place. I also learned that you are also my Masonic Brother in addition to being my Great Uncle. Even though we have lost all contact with the Lawson family please note the family name lives on as my sister’s first name is Lawson after our grandmother. Perhaps someday I may be able to meet my fellow Lawson cousins. Most Sincerely,
