Samuel David Nelson

Agency: Pleasant Hill Police Department, Missouri

He was born near Sweetwater, Tennessee on May 4, 1880. In Pleasant Hill, he was married to Vallie Parris on January 11, 1910. She passed away that December, leaving Officer Nelson unmarried for the last few years of his life.

On December 3, 1917, Officer David Nelson was taking a friend, Daisy Cline, to the Missouri Pacific Station when he saw a burglar smash the window of C.S. Bailey’s local grocery. Officer David Nelson was then shot and Cline fled the scene screaming. The suspect was later shot and killed by a civilian.

The funeral to honor Officer David Nelson was at full to capacity as Reverend C.P. Jones paid tribute to his personal friend and fallen officer. Nelson was 37 years old at his death.
