UlA A. MacMahan

On April 20, 1920 Officers Ula A. MacMahan and Henry Harris were walking south on Main Street when they heard the sound of shots being fired. They ran to Missouri Avenue, where a saloon at 6 West Missouri Avenue was being held up. By the time the officers arrived, the robber had fatally wounded the part-owner of the saloon. Officer MacMahan spotted the robber in the doorway, but was spotted himself and was immediately shot by the suspect. MacMahan managed to return fire before collapsing but was unable to apprehend the suspect. Officer MacMahan died from his wounds at General Hospital that day at the age of 42 and was survived by his wife, Gladys. Officer MacMahan was born October 31, 1877 and served heroically.
