virgil H. McGee

Deputy McGee served for the U.S. Army in World War II before he joined the Jackson County Sheriff’s office. 

On September 24th, 1973, Reserve Deputy McGee was shot and killed while working security for a Kansas City grocery store while off-duty. Deputy McGee was shot and killed while struggling with an armed suspect who was attempting to hold up the store.

The 17 year-old suspect was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life February 13, 1974.

He is survived by his wife Elouise, sons Irvin and James, and daughters Debbie, Sharon, and Karen.
