Warren Gene JAckman

Agency: Kansas City Police Department, MO

Officer Jackman served in the Kansas City Police Department for five years.

On March 10, 1976, Officer Jackman was shot and killed while working an off-duty security job at North Hills Bank of Kansas City North, at NW Englewood Road and U.S. 169 when three armed suspects entered the bank, announced a holdup and attempted to rob it. Officer Jackman attempted to intervene, was shot four times and fatally wounded but was able to return fire and seriously wound one of the suspects. He was pronounced dead at North Kansas City Hospital five hours after the shooting.

Three suspects fled the scene, two in a car and one escaped on foot after giving up the failed robbery attempt. The vehicle used in the escape, reported stolen from an auto leasing lot, was later located behind the Kansas City Waterworks. Four suspects in the offense, three male and one female were captured shortly after midnight.

He was survived by his wife and two young daughters.

Reflections:

I was assigned to the same police car as Warren out of the North-East Patrol/North.

I can see Warren laughing at me when I got his "Chaw" on my uniform that landed on the driver door all the time. Warren was a wonderful person, man and police officer. I still to this day miss him very much. I wish I knew where his kids were today because I have Warren's Police Photos that they might want. God, Take Care Of This Man, he is one of the great ones.

Officer Christopher Sager-Retired
KCMOPD

I met Warren when I came back from Nam and went to work at a 7-11 store in KCMO. He brought an underage alcohol purchaser back into the store where I worked (he looked 30). Warren had me put the alcohol back and told the guy it was a warning. If he had arrested me for supplying I would have never had a 31 year career with the MSHP. He stopped by and had coffee after that and became a friend. He was a fair officer, thanks, Warren

I went through the academy with Warren. A great young man taken went way too soon.

I worked with Warren Jackman and rode the same police car. Couldn't ask for a better guy and police officer.. We lost a great one in 1976.

Kansas City Missouri Police Dept. Retired.

My name is Sgt. Cusimano and work for the Dekalb County Police Department in Georgia. I am honored to know Officer Jackman's daughter. There is not a day that goes by that, even though she was young, she does not think of her father and the sacrifice he made. We both are participating in a run in Washington D. C. for the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. We both are dedicating our run for her father and others that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Please help her reach her goal. Go to the NLEOMF website and donate to Lisa Bartow.
